Well, here goes the first post of 2016.

As you know, (or don’t) The Family Hope moved house last year…and then moved again 6 months later (January!).

It’s certainly made keeping on top of the ol’ blogaroo difficult…

I strive however to make more frequent posts in an attempt to chronicle the good stuff.

So without further ado, i shall tell you about my weekend.

1

The annual London Super Comic Con has always been a treat. 3 years ago Mrs Hope and I first visited LSCC, and 2 years ago, I exhibited there for the first time.

2

It went swimmingly, and i met some wonderful people behind the table and in front! I couldn’t wait for this year to come around. And it did not disappoint.

3

Flanked by the super talented Alessandro Micelli and Guillermo Mogorron I sat and drew, and drew and drew. the pictures dotted through this post are some of the commissions i did while at the con.

4

It was also my great pleasure to meet Katie Cook and trade art with her (above: the Porco Rosso i traded for a freakin’ great Rey and BB8…forgot to photograph it when i’d finished!). She’s a super talented lady and had some great advice to share. It was swell to get to chat with her husband too (briefly), who, like his wife, is a super lovely human.

5

The weekend was long, and tiring with our 2 year old daughter deciding on both Saturday and Sunday morning that 5 am was the optimum time for being awake, but mega kudos to Mrs Hope who kept Aubrey occupied while we were there. And drove us there. And made sure i was organised. And got lunch. And dinner. And drove us home. And is just amazing.

6

Big shout outs to the Beatties (Mr and Mrs), Matt ‘Apes n Capes’ Rooke, Mark Laming and Nick Glenn who it’s always a pleasure to see.

7

Bigger shout out to Dave Stokes who presented me with a new (and in his opinion improved!) Mr Freeze painting for my collection. It’s dope fantastic, Dave. See you in the summer!

And the biggest shout out goes to Mike Hartigan, con buddy extraordinaire who goes back to his home town of Middle New Zealand soon. This was the last con for him in the UK for a little while as he heads home for newer pastures or older pastures depending on your outlook on life… It’s been a blast Mike, we’ll miss ya chum. Skype is a thing now though right!? *holds back tears*

10

Remember this? Of course you do.

8

Rory. Of Story Cubes fame.

Honourable mentions to Rory and the Story Cubes gang and all the other awesome people i met this weekend. You’re all the best.

9

My contribution to the Story Cubes collection!

I have still been doing lots of draws, a selection of which is attached to this post, I’ve a few larger projects coming up and as ever, a commission list that never shrinks in size.

Tuesday saw the arrival of ArtDropDay 2015. Artists all over the world leave art for people to find.

It was the first time i had contributed something and it was a lot of fun.

I made 4 paintings and dropped them in Manchester City centre.

It was great to see that people had picked up my pictures, some seeking them out intentionally and others stumbling on them by chance. While three of my pics were found, i fear the Link painting may have been discarded as trash. Photo 01-09-2015 09 30 53 Photo 01-09-2015 09 53 36 Photo 01-09-2015 11 03 06 Photo 01-09-2015 11 43 34

The Wizard

It was a sad day to be sure, but Sir Christopher Lee led a long and interesting life. At 93 he was certainly older than many when they eventually shuffle off to have tea with Death.

Here is a little tribute, the first of three pictures.

So long Mr Lee, thanks for all the memories.

Mrs Hope and I had an idea for a story involving pirates, ghosts, maidens and of course, lots of treasure…

And while the preparation for the main story is being finished off and edited, we thought we should do a prequel of sorts and introduce the characters.

The Fastidious Barnacle and The Inevitable Booty is a short story which introduces the two main characters, Captain Edgar, and Smokey Big-Ears.

The paperback book (which we have self published for now) is available in my online shop right now and for a limited time, get a Captain Edgar sketchcard and a free badge!
